Cause/effect Part 2
Blue in a Red State
Ordinarily I don’t put in a second post on the same issue. This one is different.
Am I angry at the Democrats who voted with the Republicans. Yes. If the Republicans come out looking like the good guys will I still be angry? No. Because they are not the good guys. And, I think, the Democrats who “caved” did so for a specific and valued reason - they wanted their constituents and all the people affected by the shut down to be able to access SNAP and be paid. Should they have held out longer? I don’t know.
But, this is only a step and not a very big one. The biggest step comes with the House of Representatives. Mike Johnson has to call the House back into session. He no longer has a lock to keep Adelita Grijalva from being sworn in. The House has to decide if it will vote for the CR proposed by the Senate. If it doesn’t approve the CR, we go to a joint committee to work out details.
In effect, we are still in a government shut down.
People cannot access their SNAP benefits. Air traffic controllers are not being paid. Until or unless Congress agrees on the CR language and Trump signs the resolution, we’re still shut down.
